Taco
Tacos are a delicious and versatile Mexican dish that can be filled with a variety of ingredients. Here’s a basic recipe for making classic beef tacos:
Ingredients:
For the taco filling:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
For serving:
- 8 small taco shells or tortillas (corn or flour, whichever you prefer)
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
- Sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
- Salsa or hot sauce (optional)
- Chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
- Lime wedges (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another minute, until fragrant.
- Crumble the ground beef into the skillet with the onions and garlic. Cook the beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, until it’s browned and cooked through.
- Stir in the chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until the spices coat the meat evenly.
- Pour in the beef broth or water and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, or until most of the liquid has evaporated and the flavors have melded together. Adjust the seasoning to your taste.
- While the beef filling is simmering, warm the taco shells or tortillas according to the package instructions.
- To assemble the tacos, spoon a portion of the beef filling onto each taco shell or tortilla.
- Top the beef filling with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream or Greek yogurt, salsa or hot sauce (if using), and chopped fresh cilantro (if desired).
- Serve the tacos with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
- Enjoy your delicious homemade tacos!
